Federated States of Micronesia

The Federated States of Micronesia are usually simply called Micronesia or FSM. They consist of four different states:

1. Yap
2. Chuuk
3. Pohnpei
4. Kosrae

All states have their own constitution, their own elected legislature, and their own government.

FSM consists of 607 islands spread across about 2,900 kilometers. All islands belong to the Caroline Archipelago.

English is the official language, but there are 16 additional indigenous languages spoken by the population

Numbeo rates FSM as moderate. In general, Micronesia is considered a safe country. One issue is the many stray dogs, and driving at night should be avoided. Many cars are in poor condition and have weak lights. On top of that, roads are narrow and winding with lots of potholes.

On the islands of Chuuk, alcohol and betel nuts are an issue, and tourists are advised not to walk around at night.

Its proximity to the Equator ensures consistent temperatures. The daily high is around 30°C, and at night it is rarely cooler than 22°C. FSM, especially Pohnpei, is among the rainiest regions in the world, with roughly 5.000 mm of rainfall per year. You should expect occasional rain showers almost every day.

The weather is the same year round, and FSM can be visited at any time.
