Kiribati is an island nation in the Pacific Ocean. The country consists of 32 coral atolls and the raised island of Banaba. The islands are grouped into three island chains (the Gilbert Islands, the Phoenix Islands, and the Line Islands).
The island groups are far apart from each other, which makes Kiribati the only country in the world that lies in all four hemispheres.
In addition, Kiritimati, an atoll in the Line Islands, is the easternmost land on Earth, and this is where the day begins first.
